Letters and Numbers

The world around us is full of text. From books and newspapers to billboard adverts and house numbers, the written word is everywhere.

Most of our interaction with that text concentrates on the meaning, what the words say. However, this week I want you to treat letters and numbers as a shapes in their own right.

Don’t feel restricted to your native language or character set, or to printed words.  Just find some text which you find visually pleasing and take a photo of it!

There’s a lot of scope here, from the densely packed text of a telephone directory to a single large letter from a piece of graffiti which fills the frame and everything in between!

The Usual Rules apply, get your entries in before midday (GMT) next Tuesday (29th May 2012)

Update: We seem to be receiving entries from people who haven’t read the rules.  Your photo *must* be taken this week to count as an entry.  Please don’t submit old photos!

Assistant Challenge Admin, I'm a keen amateur photographer who firmly believes that the only way to improve is to shoot more! I work in IT (yawn!) but I make as much time in my week as I can to take photos, and try to find new ways to look at the world. Oh, and I also collect telephones and telephone exchanges which were made or in use from 1920-1970(ish) Well. You've got to have a hobby or three haven't you?
