Lights at night – Results

I’m pleased to present yet another great set of photos – this one based on the theme of after dark illuminations. The theme seemed to capture your imaginations, so well done to the thirteen people who sent a photo in.

A warm welcome also to Carissa and Steve, who join us for the first time. We hope you have fun here :)

Update: Huge apologies to Ian, whose entry I accidentally forgot to include with the results. It’s now here.

Challenge Admin, I enjoy taking photos mostly of landscapes and architecture - but I will try anything! I mostly shoot film and I spend a lot of time in my darkroom trying to get the perfect print. I'm a sysadmin for a living and I also enjoy cycling and music technology.

  1. Lovely set of photos!

Something about Kathy’s I particularly like. The colours I think.

  2. Wow. These are amazing. I did take a photo but didn’t get round to emailing it (this is far too common). Now I’m glad I didn’t – it’s pathetic compared to these.

  3. As much as I like night-time urban scenes, I think my favourite this week is Danielle’s, because it is a bit less urban. Where is that? Also fantastic work from Steve, and an interesting take by Thom.

  4. Tony, Jonathan, Bertenand and Steve all tick my boxes for a good night photo (I do like to see a nice variety of light source colour temperatures!) but I think Steves photo just about has the edge this week. Wonderful sense of power and movement, and the placement of the car is perfect!

As usual, I have no adequate excuses for my failure to take part. I will get back to it at some point, I promise!

  5. Kathy’s really worked for me. I think the first two would have really hit the spot if there had been just the last hint of blue in the sky.

Great work, all! I like Carissa’s ‘anti-theme’ too… well spotted.

  6. Kathy’s and Steve’s (from another great bunch) for me this week. And yes, I know I missed the deadline again – I would like to repeat Paul’s final paragraph!

  7. Wow! Amazing set of pictures. I especially like Jay’s – you could hang that on a wall!
Good to see some new participants too. Welcome!

  8. Distinctly urban character. And Nigel Hurll is a lazyarse!

  9. Quality entries again this week from everyone! There’s just something about the still capture of a moving vehicle’s lights that I really like! This is achieved by changing shutter speed, qui?

  10. That’s right, Simmo. You also need a tripod to hold it steady. Does your camera allow manual shutter speed?

  11. took some indoor ones but they were rubbish compared to these, so didnt bother sending.

  12. Many really good shots, i particularly like Jonathans mon with green highlights and Jays light floods
